The Organic Welsh Mango

Anth and I have been getting a weekly organic fruit and vegetable box from a store in town, who try to source local produce. This has been great because the fruit and vegetables do actually taste better (esp. the carrots) and because there is always the element of surprise coupled with the possible arrival of something that we haven't come across before (Curly Kale, anyone?). In last Friday's box we received something very unexpected: a mango. Now, at first sight, I was pretty sceptical about it being a locally grown mango, and indeed, the sticker on it stated 'Saint Dominigue', so it has travelled a little way to get here. Also, there there wasn't much else in the box, so the mango probably cost in the vicinity of £10. But it tasted like ... mango. What luxury!

haha. well you how but we send you some mangos and pappaws off the trees in our backyard.... just to rub it in. we also get a very randm vegie box delivery- it contains luxurious items like rocket and corriander (which really are luxurious cos' noone here grows or eats them) but sometimes they bulk up the box by giving us two huge plastic bags full of snowpeas... which I never quite vworked out what to do with.

i like this mango story.

miss you guys.... will you both be back at christmas? we will....

Hi Rachel! We miss you too, but we won't be back for Christmas this year. Maybe sometime in the middle of next year ...

I'd love some snowpeas! Right now we seem to be getting heaps of broadbeans. And neither of us particularly likes broadbeans. Hmmpf.

that's an interesting take on "local" produce. we are also getting organic veggies delivered, usually three boxes at a time and nothing too weird as yet. the closest we've come to weird is brussel sprouts which aren't so much weird as disgusting - but jon was excited... i think he's been eating roughly 15 carrots a day for the last few weeks, that seems to be the bulk of our deliveries!

no christmas trip, anth? i thought there was one in the pipeline?

Planning to come for a week or so in late November.

Jon will turn into a carrot if he's not careful...

Hmmm... I decided early on that it wasn't worth eating any of the mangoes that made it to Britain. Sounds like they might actually better in Wales than London? A lot of things are...
